Sonoran Tutoring is a tutoring program that offers customized tutoring for students in grades K-5, covering all subjects. Each student has individual learning needs, and our private tutoring sessions focus on addressing their specific needs. We provide one-on-one support to help your child improve in areas that they struggle with. Additionally, we can collaborate with your child’s teacher to ensure they stay on track with the skills being taught during the school year.

Hi! I’m Julie Kurtz. I am excited to provide tutoring services with your child. My expertise is in diagnosing reading and math issues and designing and implementing a specialized program to fit the needs of children. I specialize in grades K-5 and can tutor in all subject areas.

My son was diagnosed in the 2nd grade with dyslexia, which made school very stressful and difficult for him. Thankfully, we found Ahwatukee Tutoring, and once my son started working with Julie, we were able to see huge improvements in his academics. He did tutoring with Julie for about two years, which really helped him not only gain confidence in his reading ability, but it also gave him a ton of techniques he could use in school to help make reading and writing so much more accessible. He is now graduating from high school is going to ASU in the fall as a pre-med student! He has earned a Dean's Scholarship, and he has received a few other scholarships based on academics as well! Julie Kurtz worked with my son for approximately 6 years. She did weekly 2 hour sessions with him that went well beyond my expectations, as she also did a significant amount of work preparing his weekly lesson. During this period his understanding of the concepts increased markedly and this also showed up in his grades coming up at school. Julie has been seeing our son since the end of kindergarten and he is now in fourth grade. She is always willing to work with your child’s teacher. She is very knowledgeable in what the learning standards are for each grade level. Julie takes the time to make lesson plans for each week as well. Schedule a meet and greet here. During this first meeting, we will discuss goals and needs of your child.
We currently only offer tutoring online, using zoom and other virtual learning tools. This can be a very safe, convenient and effective way to support your child’s education. We have had many challenging students that have excelled with online one-on-one sessions.
During the initial meet and greet, we can assess the frequency and duration of the sessions based on the goals of the parent and child. We usually recommend 4-8 sessions per month.
Skills are assessed and documented during the session. Parents will receive a lesson summary after each session. We use the Arizona state standards to help students stay on track with their learning.
